East Boston Greenway Oral History Project

About

Project

The project was conducted by the East Boston Greenway Council in partnership with the Boston Natural Areas Network and a team of volunteer interviewers in 1997 and 1998. 14 interviews were conducted with longtime East Boston residents, resulting in over 20 hours of recorded oral history.

Digitization

The interviews were recorded on cassette tapes. In 2020, nattaylor@gmail.com digitized them using a cassette tape player with a USB output, the playback of which was captured and post processed with a software called "Audacity". They are shared with lossy MP3 compression. Currently, only some of the tapes have been digitized.
